Assume that you have started your own website, yes, you are ready to start earning from it. I don’t think so, and not that fast as well. Many of us who are new to worldwide web might actually think that once you have set-up the website, you are starting to earn money from there, but what if there is no visitor and in another word, in virtual worldwide web, we call it traffic. A website without traffic at all, it is consider a ghost town. Why no traffic or no visitor? In real world, for example, just imagine that you have open up a shop in a forest, and there is no road sign pointing to your shop, nor any roads going to the shop, do you think that you might actually get business from the shop? No, not even a single person will know that your shop is open there inside the forest, even though you have the best recipe of dish in the shop.

Without customer, no matter how good is your services, contents, products is, still your business will die, same goes to website.

Let me explain in a simple translation, a good contents doesn’t really always gets the normal traffic and visitors, if there is nobody knows about your website or even it is already exist for a long time. If you are lucky enough, you might get some traffic from the search engine like Google, Yahoo, Live and etc. But the traffic gain won’t be the amount that you are expecting. On the road and highway, drivers look for signboard to reach for their destination, while in the virtual worldwide web, we use similar word language like link, advertisement, or even sometime we use title bait to attract visitor.

When you start you own website, you need to actively and have a attitude of regularly generate traffic to your website. If fail to do so, you might end up, loosing your time and money, while time is money.

There a few ways that you might want to try gain traffic or even boost to your website. Even there is no guarantee of gaining more traffic, but all these method had been used by other webmaster around the world today on the worldwide web.

Ways to gain traffic
1. Search Engine - in today internet usage, it have been proven that among all of us who uses internet, actually use search engine like Google, Yahoo, Live and etc to search for certain things, products or even knowledge, just like where you first came from to my blogs. If you have just started your website, don’t expect to high on getting visitor from search engine in such a short time. SE in short form of search engine, actually takes times to index your website, in another word, its actually send a bot or spider to crawl on your website, and if you lucky, you might get indexed in just few hours or days or worst months. Webmaster often use a method which they named it as “Search Engine Optimizition” which is SEO, in order to be rank on certain search engine result along with selected keywords (which i might be posting about it later). Some webmaster provide this kind of service which of coz, there is charges of doing so. Careful on what you spend on, where some they uses black hat method to gain result on SE.

2. Linking in links - like a chain, which link to each other, not just only linking but also bringing some traffic to both website which links together. Try find website that are related to yours, email to the owner asking permission or offering whether they can accept an exchange link with each others website. Some high rank website might not have an exchange links but they might in return offering you whether want to advertise on their website with a certain amount depending on their website rank.

3. Directory submission - another way to promote your website, and also might actually help you on gaining crawled by SE, and some traffic as well. Some directory’s owner actually offer free submission while some might need to pay or having a reciprocal links.

4. Ads on Ads - adwords, which is one of the most used among all business and webmaster today, you can buy adwords or advertise using adwords. Or like the 2nd ways, you can find website related to yours, and by looking at their daily traffic, hoping to attract some visitor to your website, try advertise via advertisement on related website.

Among all above is 4 of the few ways, but it is the very basic ways for new website’s owner. As i mentioned earlier, i am a mid-pro webmaster , all this guides are base on my own experience and learn from my mistake.
